Thomas will be joining the SEA 1442 Phase 5 ‘Project Hermes’ as a Senior Systems Engineer to assist CASG in the upgrade of Navy’s communication systems in the surface fleet.  SEA 1442 is a multi-phase project to provide a maritime communications and information exchange architecture to meet the Australian Defence Force (ADF) requirements for Network Centric Warfare (NCW) in the maritime environment.

Thomas is an Engineer with experience in Communication Systems, Combat Systems, and Systems Engineering.  Previously Thomas has worked on the JP9101 Enhanced High Frequency Communication System program and prior to this was the Maritime Engineering Domain Function Lead in CASG.

Thomas’ primary project engineering experience was from 10 years in DMO/CASG Submarines Branch, where he delivered upgrades to Collins Class Submarine Tactical and Weapon Control Systems from 2011 – 2013; Sonar obsolescence upgrades in 2014, and the replacement and upgrade of the External Communication Systems from 2015-2021.

He holds a Masters of Engineering Science from UNSW and a Bachelor of Engineering from University of Tasmania.
